Week 53 Delft Netherlands

This last week we had a zone training in Zoetermeer.  We had a member of our ward teach a language section during it and that was actually my favorite part!! He really helped us with the language and it was just a lot of fun.

So on Wednesday I as on exchange here in Delft and we did just a bunch of look ups and door knocking.  At about 8.00 we knocked on this guy’s door and he let us right in.  He is an old guy from curacoa! haha I love old men from curacoa.  They are always religious and willing to talk.  But anyway we taught him all about the book of Mormon and set up a return appointment.  It was awesome! The work has been going really slow here lately so that was just what we needed.  We are going back tonight to teach the restoration so I hope it goes well.

We have been teaching this young student lately that actually referred himself via mormon.org.  He wanted a triple combination so we delivered it to him a while ago, but anyway we stopped by on Saturday to try and get a lesson set up for Sunday and he let us right in because he had some questions.  He had read the pearl of great price and had a lot of questions about the war in heaven.  I'm not used to talking about the war in heaven on a first lesson, but it was actually pretty cool.  He seemed to really just love everything we were telling him, but before we left we told him to check out mormon.org and look through the Q&A section.  ON Sunday when we showed up he told us he had read through it and he read the part about the churches standing on plural marriage.  Turns out he's gay and he dropped us.  He doesn't want us coming back anymore, and he said that he had hoped that Mormons were different than other religions but we are all the same. We tried to teach him about it for a while but he wouldn't listen.  It was kind of a hard experience for me.  This guy was so positive.  He had so many questions answered about the bible by reading the pearl of great price and he felt the spirit, but in the end he just wasn't open to listening.

On a different note, I was reading through the liahona yesterday and I read an article about a Brother Hulet! haha I don't know if we are related or anything but it was just cool to see the Hulet name in a magazine that millions of Mormons read!

Well I had a good week, and I'm grateful for all of the support and emails from yall!

Week 52 Delft Netherlands

My sweet new water bottle

Dinner Appointment with the Peacock's

Sorry I didn't send an email to yall last week.  We had a zone pday and we didn't have much time to email.

So this last week I got the chance to go on three exchanges.  I really enjoy exchanges and look forward to them every week.  On one of them with the zone leaders I got to spend the night in den haag with elder Bitters.  When I woke up in the morning there was no food in their apartment so we decided to go out and get some McDonald’s for breakfast.  Well we forgot McDonalds doesn't open until 9 here, and we had already driven all the way out to it. So in the mean time we went up to the beach and had our study time on the beach while we waited for McDonalds to open.  I didn't have my camera with me so I don’t' have pictures, but it is like the coolest beach ever! So dang cool! And it was early enough in the morning we didn't have to worry about people being on the beach so that was also nice!

So since it is summer break all of our investigators are gone on vacation.  We teach a lot of student’s because the university TU Delft is in our area.  We did a lot of finding this week and we found these two Chinese kids.  I still can't pronounce their names but they are super cool and willing to listen to what we have to say.  We got a lot of other potentials this week but they all said to not contact them until after summer break! haha this city is going to go crazy in September!

This last week has been the hottest of my mission! They also don't believe in air conditioning in this country so it is just as hot inside as it is outside.  Whenever we come home for lunch and dinner we change into basketball shorts to try and cool off, and we carry frozen water bottles with us.  It is unbelievably hot, but luckily it rains a lot here too so every once and a while rain is nice.

Well it was a good week.  Not a whole lot happened, but I'm still just loving my mission! Delft is the coolest city in the world!

Week 51 Delft Netherlands

Fathers Day Card Ryan sent home

Every Friday we have correlation with all of the Den Haag missionaries and our ward mission leader Broeder Scherf.  This last Friday right as we were closing he bore his testimony, and then he said he felt like he should tell us something else.  Then he started talking about how important it is to have spiritual experiences every day.  He challenged us to do that and I really think that is the biggest thing about our personal conversion in the gospel.  If we don't feel the spirit often then we start losing a hold of the iron rod.  It was kind of a crazy week I'm not going to lie but what broeder Scherf said was an answer to my prayers.  I am so grateful for my mission.

Well I love you all and Hope you have a great week!

Week 50 Delft Netherlands

I GO HOME EXACTLY ONE YEAR FROM TODAY! Crazy right?? Well anyway this last week was good.  We got permission to watch all of the Belgium or Netherlands games in the world cup now so we watched the Belgium one the other night and they lost. But I'm so excited for the Nederland game this Wednesday. It's going to be insane!!! Anyway the work is kind of slowing down here because everyone of our investigators just left on vacation.  It's weird here. Like the whole country shuts down and everyone leaves on vacation.  Everyone gets like 3 weeks of vacation time for work and school so it’s really no good for missionary work.

We helped a few people move this last week and one of them was going to get rid of their couch so we took it and put it in our apartment! WE HAVE A COUCH NOW! Its super sweet!

Well yesterday was the baptism of the sisters investigator who has been investigating for a year and a half.  She was so excited and she invited us over on Saturday to eat at her house and she had us all bring 3 ingredients. It was like that iron chef show. She made us a super delicious dinner with just the things we brought!  Then we went to a second dinner apt/ world cup party! It was a lot of fun!  All in all it was a really good week! Oh yeah also on the fourth of july before we went to bed me and my companion shot these streamer things off of our balcony and screamed GOD BLESS AMERICA! at the top of our lungs just to celebrate a little.  Well I hope you all have a great week!
